Ralph L. Rosnow
Methodological, statistical, conceptual, ethical, and related qualitative and quantitative topics and issues in research with humans and animals in contexts in continual flux are longtime interests. For over 50 years, I collaborated with my old friend and colleague, Robert Rosenthal, in studies, books, and articles, in which we dipped our toes into areas of research methodology, data analysis, ethics, and related topics and questions. It was great fun, and our friendship grew, as did my drafts of unfinished chapters for books we never got around to completing. Marylu Rosenthal passed, Bob's vision was deteriorating, but certainly not his wisdom or curiosity or optimistic perspective. We made a point of chatting every Saturday, and the heck with surrendering to natural challenges.
Earlier, Bob and I had been successful getting the rights from some publishers to some of our collaborative work, our thought being to make this work into a kind of legacy, freely accessible online. Two of our coauthored books are accessible for viewing or downloading here and on Harvard DASH. They are (1) the 2008 edition of Essentials of Behavioral Research: Methods and Data Analysis and (2) People Studying People: Artifacts and Ethics in Behavioral Research (172 pages). Click on IMAGES tab at the top of this page, then choose the highlighted title of either book, and on View/Download. To use Harvard DASH, click on PUBLICATIONS tab, then click on Essentials of Behavioral Research or on People Studying People, and once directed to the book's site, choose View/Open.
Full-text scanned copies of three additional books (for which my coauthors and I have publisher rights) are openly available here by clicking on FILES tab at the top of this page, then click on highlighted title of interest, and selecting View/Download. The books are (3) Writing Papers in Psychology (9th edition, coauthored with Mimi Rosnow; this is a student manual with tips, guidelines, and illustrative examples of proposals, research papers, literature reviews, poster presentations, and concise handout reports); (4) Paradigms in Transition: The Methodology of Social Inquiry; and (5) Rumor and Gossip: The Social Psychology of Hearsay (coauthored with Gary Alan Fine; this is an older book, although it may stimulate some enterprising students to want to learn more about current research and insights internationally).
